UH, SO WE DID HAVE A RUNOFF ELECTION FOR COUNCIL MEMBER DISTRICT FOUR, AND I WANTED TO PRESENT THE RESULTS, UM, FROM BOTH DALLAS AND TARRANT COUNTY.
UH, THE RESULTS WERE, UH, TOTAL NUMBER OF VOTE VOTES CAST WERE 1,142.
AND THE, UM, RESULTS WERE 56.4% TO JOHN LOPEZ AND 43.6% TO MARQUITA NEMO.
UH, WITH THAT, UM, MAYOR, WE ARE REQUESTING THAT COUNCIL TAKE ACTION TO ACCEPT THE, UH, RESULTS PRESENTED BY THE COUNTIES.

AND THIS ELECTION HELPED ME UNDERSTAND THAT THERE'S STILL TIMES WHERE WE COULD DO BETTER TO REALLY ADVOCATE BETTER FOR OUR RESIDENTS.
THIS ELECTION WASN'T NEVER ABOUT MYSELF.
YOU KNOW, I ALWAYS PUT THE RESIDENTS FIRST.
I WANNA DO WHATEVER'S POSSIBLE IS BEST FOR THAT.

SO, UM, IT'S 150,000 AND MOST OF THOSE SIDEWALKS ARE, UM, REPAIRED OR ARE PUT IN.
AND THEY USUALLY ARE AROUND SCHOOLS WHERE SMALL CHILDREN ARE TRAVELING OR YOUNG CHILDREN ARE TRAVELING IN AND OUT OF SCHOOL.

I'M HERE TO RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT THE COUNCIL PROVIDE OVERSIGHT IN THE RECONSIDERATION OF THE RECENT DECISION TO RELOCATE OUR COMMUNITY CROSSFIT PROGRAM TO A SMALLER, LESS FUNCTIONAL SPACE THAT DOES NOT ADEQUATELY MEET THE NEEDS OF ACCOMMODATING ALL CROSSFIT ACTIVITIES.
I RECOGNIZE THAT ALLOCATING SPACE AND RESOURCES ACROSS PROGRAMS IS A DIFFICULT BALANCING ACT AND THE EPIC MUST ADDRESS MANY COMPETING PRIORITIES.
THAT SAID, THIS DECISION MARKS THE SEVENTH TIME THE CROSSFIT PROGRAM HAS BEEN MOVED.
EACH RELOCATION FURTHER UNDERMINING CONSISTENCY AND MEMBER RETENTION EFFORTS.
THIS MOST RECENT CHANGES, PARTICULARLY TROUBLING ESPECIALLY WITH HOW THE NEWS WAS IMPERSONALLY DELIVERED OVER EMAIL WITHOUT ANY PRIOR INDICATION THAT THERE WAS THE POSSIBILITY OF BEING MOVED AGAIN.
THE NEW SPACE CANNOT SAFELY OR EFFECTIVELY ACCOMMODATE THE NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS WE HAVE SEEN SINCE OCCUPYING THE MULTIPURPOSE COURT OR THE FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT CENTRAL TO CROSSFIT.
EVEN IF YOU ADD MORE CLASS TIMES, ASKING MEMBERS TO RESERVE TIME SLOTS CREATES ANIMOSITY BETWEEN MEMBERS AND TRYING TO SECURE A SPOT AND LEADS TO MEMBERS ULTIMATELY LOSING OUT AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PARTICIPATE IN CLASS AT ALL.
WE'RE STILL, THE DECISION WAS MADE WITHOUT SURVEYING MEMBERS WHO USE THE SPACE DAILY, WHICH FEELS LIKE A STEP AWAY FROM THE TRANSPARENCY AND COMMUNITY FIRST APPROACH.
WE VALUE IN THIS CITY IN SOME PROGRAM SPACES.
IF SOME PROGRAM SPACES ARE BEING UNDERUTILIZED, SHOULD THERE NOT BE OUTREACH TO RECEIVE FEEDBACK FROM PATRONS ON WHY IT IS THE CASE.
IN RECENT YEARS, THERE HAS BEEN A CLEAR SHIFT TOWARD REPURPOSING

COMMUNITY SPACES FOR REVENUE GENERATION WITHIN THE EPIC, RATHER THAN PRESERVING ACCESS TO PROGRAMS THAT PRIORITIZE RESIDENT WELLBEING.OUR PROGRAM IN PARTICULAR, FIRST SAW EVIDENCE OF THIS WHEN WE WERE MOVED FROM THE WAREHOUSE BECAUSE MORE REVENUE COULD BE GENERATED FROM RENTALS.
WHILE REVENUE IS IMPORTANT FOR OPERATING COST RE RECONCILIATION, THE CORE MISSION OF OUR PUBLIC FACILITIES SHOULD BE TO SERVE THE COMMUNITY, NOT TO DISPLACE IT.
ADDITIONALLY, THE SPACE CROSSFIT CURRENTLY OCCUPIES UNDERWENT A FULL FLOOR RESURFACING THAT COST OVER A MILLION DOLLARS JUST NINE MONTHS AGO.
NOW, WITH THE PROGRAM BEING MOVED IN THE SPACE UNDERGOING RENOVATION, AGAIN, IT RAISES SERIOUS QUESTIONS ABOUT FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY THAT THIS CHANGE IS PROPOSING TO FIX.
MONEY IS NOW BEING POURED INTO REPURPOSING NOT JUST OUR CURRENT SPACE, BUT THE GROUP FIT CLASS SPACES UPSTAIRS WHEN THEY'RE IN GOOD ORDER AS IS.
HAVE YOU SEEN THE CURRENT CONDITION OF THE BASKETBALL COURT WITH SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FLOOR THAT HAS BEEN THERE SINCE WINTER? WHY ARE WE EVEN TALKING ABOUT REDOING TWO SPACES WHEN THE BASKETBALL FLOOR NEEDS SERIOUS ATTENTION? BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE DUE TO A HUGE HOLE IN THE FLOOR.
AT WHAT POINT IS THERE ACCOUNTABILITY HELD FOR REPEATEDLY INVESTING AND REPURPOSING SPACES THAT ARE IN GOOD CONDITION AND PERPETUALLY DISPLACING ACTIVE EFFECTIVE PROGRAMS WITHOUT CITIZEN INPUT? I ALSO WANNA POINT OUT CROSSFIT MEMBERSHIP AS AN ADDITIONAL FEE PATRONS WILLINGLY PAY ADDED TO THE EPIC MEMBERSHIP.
I DO REALIZE HOW FORTUNATE I AM AND I AM VERY GRATEFUL.
GRAND PRAIRIE HAS MADE A COMMITMENT TO KEEP CROSSFIT AFFORDABLE IN COMPARISON TO THE TYPICAL PRICE AT AFFILIATES.
HOWEVER, IT IS NOT EQUITABLE FOR OTHER ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BE ACCESSED AT OTHER RECREATIONAL FACILITIES IN GRAND PRAIRIE TO IMPEDE ON AN ACTIVITY LIKE CROSSFIT THAT FOR FULL PARTICIPATION REQUIRES A SPECIALIZED SPACE.
FOR EXAMPLE, I CAN GO TO MULTIPLE PUB PUBLIC RECREATIONAL SPACES, INDOOR AND OUTDOOR TO PLAY PICKLEBALL CROSS GRAND PRAIRIE.
THAT IS NOT THE CASE FOR CROSSFIT.
I DO APPRECIATE THE PASSION GRAND PRAIRIE HAS FOR PICKLEBALL BECAUSE IT IS THE LEVEL OF PASSION I HAVE FOR CROSSFIT, BUT WANT TO BRING AWARENESS THAT OTHER RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES ARE BEING IMPACTED TO MAKE MORE TIME FOR PICKLEBALL ON THE MULTIPURPOSE FLOOR.
NOT ONLY CROSSFIT, BUT ALSO THE GROUP FIT CLASSES UPSTAIRS.
THE CROSSFIT PROGRAM IS MORE THAN A FITNESS CLASS.
IT'S A SUPPORT SYSTEM THAT PROMOTES PHYSICAL, MENTAL, AND SOCIAL WELLBEING.
IT HAS SERVED AS A SAFE EMPOWERING ENVIRONMENT FOR PEOPLE OF ALL AGES, BACKGROUNDS AND ABILITIES.
WE'VE SEEN PEOPLE OVERCOME PERSONAL HEALTH BATTLES, GAIN CONFIDENCE AND BUILD LASTING RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN THIS PROGRAM.
WE ALL WANT A CITY THAT SUPPORTS WELLNESS, EQUITY AND COMMUNITY BUILDING.
THE CROSSFIT PROGRAM EMBODIES THOSE VALUES, IT UPLIFTS INDIVIDUALS AND IN TURN STRENGTHENS OUR COLLECTIVE WELLBEING.
I ASK THAT WE RECONSIDER THIS DECISION, ALLOW FOR MORE TIME TO EVALUATE THE TRUE BEST PATH FORWARD AND EXPLORE MORE PRACTICAL ALTERNATIVES.

OVER THE YEARS CROSSFIT 29 60 COMMUNITY AT THE EPIC HAS BECOME MORE THAN JUST A FITNESS PROGRAM.
IT'S A PLACE OF BELONGING, TRANSFORMATION, AND RESILIENCE.
THE CURRENT SPACE, THE MULTIPURPOSE COURT NOT ONLY ACCOMMODATES THE ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT WEIGHTS, BUT ALSO PROVIDES A SAFE ENVIRONMENT TO TRAIN WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE INTEGRITY OF THE WORKOUTS OR THE SAFETY OF THE PARTICIPANTS.
THE PROGRAM IS LED BY HIGHLY EXPERIENCED COACHING STAFF THAT BRINGS PROFESSIONALISM, MOTIVATION, AND GUIDANCE TO A GROWING NUMBER OF EPIC MEMBERS WHO ACTIVELY PRACTICE THE SPORT TO SUPPORT THEM AND ALLOW THE COMMUNITY TO, TO THRIVE.
THEY NEED PROPER FACILITIES THAT REFLECT THE SIZE AND COMMITMENT OF THEIR MEMBERSHIP.
HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS HAVE ALREADY BEEN INVESTED IN THE RESURFACING OF THE MULTI-PURPOSE COURT AND THE INSTALLATION OF STATE-OF-THE-ART EQUIPMENT.
RESTRICTING THE SPACE TO ONLY PICKLEBALL WOULD O WOULD NOT ONLY

RELOCATING CROSSFIT 29 60 TO A SMALLER STUDIO WOULD SEVERELY LIMIT THE PROGRAM'S EFFECTIVENESS AND DIMINISH THE VALUE THAT SO MANY RESIDENTS DERIVE FROM IT.

IN OCTOBER OF 2020, AT THE TIME WHEN THE WORLD FELT UNCERTAIN AND HEAVY, I FOUND CROSSFIT NOT JUST THE PROGRAM, BUT THE MINDSET, THE DISCIPLINE,

AND THE CONSISTENCY THAT COMES WITH IT.THAT EXPERIENCE FOUND RIGHT HERE IN GRAND PRAIRIE AT THE EPIC HAS STAYED WITH ME EVER SINCE.
I MADE THIS EXPERIENCE EVEN MORE MEANINGFUL AS I DID GO AT IT ALONE.
MY WIFE AND I BOTH STARTED CROSSFIT TOGETHER USING IT NOT JUST AS A WAY TO IMPROVE OUR HEALTH, BUT AS A SHARED HOBBY, A WAY TO SPEND TIME TOGETHER, CHALLENGED OURSELVES SIDE BY SIDE, AND GROW AS A COUPLE.
THAT DECISION BROUGHT US CLOSER AND HELPED BUILD HABITS WE'VE CARRIED FORWARD.
NOW I UNDERSTAND THAT CHANGES IS COMING.
THE MOVE FROM THE CURRENT MULTIPURPOSE SPACE TO THE UPSTAIRS STUDIOS IS INEVITABLE, AND I WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT WITH FULL RESPECT.
I KNOW THE CITY WORKS HARD TO MANAGE SPACE AT THE EPIC SO I CAN, SO IT CAN SERVE A WIDE VARIETY OF PROGRAMS AND PEOPLE.
I APPRECIATE THE THOUGHTFUL PLANNING THAT GOES INTO THESE DECISIONS.
I LIKE TO RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT WE MAKE THE NEW SPACE SUITABLE FOR ADVANCED CROSSFITTERS, NOT JUST FOR TODAY'S MEMBERS, BUT FOR THE FUTURE OF THE PROGRAM.
MOVEMENTS LIKE MUSCLE UPS, ROPE CLIMB AND OLYMPIC LIFTS REQUIRE TALL CEILINGS, REINFORCED RIGGING AND OPEN SPACE.
THESE AREN'T LUXURIES FOR COMPETITIVE ATHLETES.
THEY'RE ESSENTIAL TOOLS FOR ANY CROSSFITTER WHO WANTS TO GROW, SCALE UP AND STAY SAFE.
IF THE NEW UPSTAIRS STUDIO IS TO BECOME OUR HOME, WE HOPE IT CAN BE ADAPTED IN A WAY THAT ALLOWS FOR THESE CORE ELEMENTS, WHETHER IT'S INSTALLING TALLER, RIGGING, MODIFIED CEILING ACCESS FOR ROPE CLIMBS, OR ENSURING SAFETY FOR BARBELL WORK.
BARBELL WORK, ANY STEPS TAKEN WOULD BE AN INVESTMENT IN THE LONG TERM SUCCESS OF THE PROGRAM AND ITS MEMBERS.
CROSSFIT AT THE EPIC ISN'T JUST A CLASS, IT'S A COMMUNITY AND IT'S A LIFELINE FOR MANY OF US TRYING TO LIVE HEALTHIER, STRONGER LIVES.

I'VE SEEN OTHERS GROW THROUGH IT, AND I BELIEVE THIS PROGRAM IS ONE OF THE BEST WAYS THAT EPIC SERVES ADULTS AND FAMILIES IN OUR CITY.
SO I'M HERE NOT JUST TO EXPRESS CONCERN, BUT TO OFFER PARTNERSHIP.
